Sex is Everywhere

This word, even in the hookup culture is still taboo, even more so, is the sad convictions students, and young people having the embarrassed feelings, for having feelings, or feel weak for wanting connection. 

The interesting paradox, is that students will have sexual intercourse with people they don't like versus their personal crushes. Casual sex rules and yet intimacy is out the window. One student who was interviewed in an NPR broadcast, shared that although she felt she was doing a lot of what the culture was doing pertaining to sex, she felt she was doing it wrong. 

Often times, hookups are not about pleasure, especially for women, however, more of status, and it is as everything a socialized behavior.

This realization of the orgasm gap by Lisa Wade has brought awareness to many questions I had between men's and women's frequency of orgasm impacting social forces in which privilege male pleasure. Theory of Sexual Scripts

The Theory of Sexual scripts in particular states that sexual relations are scripted interactions based on prevailing gender ideologies. A dominant example of this is, seeing men, to be the initiators and women as sexually shy, submissive and as gatekeepers. In Western culture sex means love and intimacy for women, and orgasm and physical pleasure for men.  The condition of violent scripts explains the gendered patterns of violence. The eminence on men's initiation and pleasure in traditional scripts is a correlation at least some think, to the emphasis on men's sexual aggression. Men are to demand sex, while a women is passive.

Bodies are Produced Within our Society

Everywhere we look on our televisions, we are looking at body images that we don't realize are shaping our sexuality. For example, according to sociologist Raewyn Cornell, bodies are produced through "body-reflexive practices". What this means is that an individual shapes and comports their body to conform to the demands and expectations of society for their gender. These captures from a scene in a movie I was watching, showcases a young beautiful girl, with large breast and thin body, in which we are being told this is what beauty looks like. The media, society, is creating these thoughts and believes as the physical body is enmeshed in a social world of practices and activities that have physical outcomes regarding sexuality, reproduction and masculinity or femininity. We are informally learning gestures and nonverbal forms of communication that become our at times unconscious repertoires of gendered and sexualized body practices.
